Founded in 1971, the Washington Youth Garden sponsors many programs and events such Garden Science, Seed to Supper, Family Garden Days, Sprout, Annual Garlic Planting Parties, Strolling Supper in the Garden, and Family Garden Days. The Washington Youth Garden is today a popular destination for local residents as well as national and international visitors. Washington Youth Garden uses the outdoors and gardening as a way to motivate environmental support, enrich science learning, and cultivate healthiness in families and youth.

A project of the 501(c)3 Friends of the National Arboretum, the Washington Youth garden is supported by the United States National Arboretum. The organization works closely with the DC Environmental Education Consortiums, Farm to School, DC Greens, DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education, and more. As a flexible work employer, the Washington Youth Garden has in the past offered telecommuting and part-time job opportunities to qualified candidates.
