Washington Parks and People is a nonprofit network of partnerships dedicated to community greening, park revitalization, and public land reclamation in the nation’s capital. Based in Washington, DC, which has more green space per capita than any other major city in the U.S., Washington Parks and People is a volunteer-fueled organization whose mission is to connect the city’s parks and waterways to its people and diverse communities.

Some of the art, health, and food-focused programs that Washington Parks and People either sponsors or supports are: the Heart & Soul park-based fitness program; the Community Harvest alliance of 50 community gardens; the DC Green Corps, a service and job-readiness initiative; and a bike patrol and repair Trail Rangers program. Founded in 1990 as a volunteer crime patrol for neighborhood parks, Washington Parks and People has four office locations around the city. The organization was founded by Stephen W. Coleman.

Washington Parks and People has been recognized for its work with a National Partnership Leadership Award from President Bill Clinton and the Banneker Award for Social Commitment from the American Planning Association.
