The Trevor Project was founded in 1998 by the creators ofTrevor, an Acadamy Award-winning short film about a 13-year-old boy who faces discrimination for being gay. According to the team, the Oscar-winning film launched a national movement, and cofounder Peggy Rajski discovered the need for a place where young people like Trevor could go when facing challenges similar to his. Since 1998, hundreds of thousands of youth in crisis have turned to the Trevor Project's in-person and online suicide prevention and crisis intervention programs. The nonprofit also runs TrevorSpace, "the world's largest” social networking site for LGBTQ teens and young adults, and operates innovative research, advocacy, and education programs.
