The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that exists to realize "the promise of civil rights." Founded in 1971 and headquartered in Montgomery, Alabama, SPLC is a catalyst for racial justice in and beyond the southern United States and works with communities to advance human rights, strengthen intersectional movements, and dismantle white supremacy.

Other SPLC initiatives include the Intelligent Project, through which it tracks and exposes the activities of hate groups and other domestic extremists, and the Teaching Tolerance program, which produces and distributes free anti-bias resources, such as books, documentaries, lesson plans, and other materials that promote educational equity in schools.
