Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry, formerly known as the Hunger Task Food Pantry, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Oak Park, Illinois. Founded in the late 1970’s by a group of concerned citizen, Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry was initially led by local Girl Scout leader Patricia Funk and was housed in the Faith United Methodist Church. For many years, Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry was associated with the Community of Congregations, previously the Community of Churches, before becoming a separate organization in 2010.

The mission of the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry is to advocate for anti-hunger, offer hunger awareness educational programs, and to provide direct hunger relief services to the nearly 7,000 “food insecure” members of its community. Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry provides groceries in the form of dairy, meat, and produce products to nearly 45,000 individuals and 15,000 families for 12 zip codes in the greater Chicago area, including many of Oak Park’s surrounding suburbs.

Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry is supported by a team of professional staff members, AmeriCorps members, and more than 300 volunteers who donate over 2,000 hours of labor each month. In the past, Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry has hired for part-time work opportunities.
