Main-Dempster Mile is a business organization representing small, locally-owned commercial interests on Main Street in Evanston, Illinois, as well as the nearby Chicago-Dempster business district in Chicago’s northern suburbs. Designated a special service area for commercial interest by the state of Illinois, Main-Dempster Miles has offered part-time jobs in the past.

Under its authority as a special service area, Main-Dempster Mile provides specific services to the designated region, beyond those offered by local agencies and municipalities. Those services can include advertising, public art, landscaping, and extra refuse collections; these additional services are paid for by tax revenues collected within the special service area.
