Originally known as Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, Bender JCC of Greater Washington was founded in 1913 and officially incorporated in 1923. In 2016, Sondra and Howard Bender donated a "transformative" donation that inspired the adoption of the center's new name in their honor. Today, Bender JCC of Greater Washington continues to provide programming and activities for adults and seniors; early childhood education camps and programs for youth and teens; fitness and exercise activities; and arts and cultural programs focused on Jewish life, as well as other cultures.
