Jazz at Lincoln Center began in 1987 as a summer concert series designed to attract new, younger audiences to Lincoln Center. In 1991, the organization officially became a department of Lincoln Center, and performed concerts throughout New York City. Jazz at Lincoln Center grew to produce its own radio series, and its Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra developed into a world-renowned institution of some of the finest arrangers, soloists, and ensemble musicians in the genre.
