About Family Violence Law Center

Researched & Written by Emily Courtney on the FlexJobs Team

The Family Violence Law Center was founded by a group of women in 1978 in response to the lack of emergency services available to domestic violence survivors in Alameda County, Oakland, California. Services began then with a crisis hotline and emergency shelter services, and have evolved to include legal services, criminal justice advocacy, and crisis intervention. The Family Violence Law Center also runs the Relationship Abuse Prevention (RAP) Program, which educates and empowers teens to choose healthy relationships, and the Healing Emotions and Loss (HEAL) Program, which offers free psychotherapy to children five years old and younger and their parent.
