The East Side Learning Center - ESLC was established in 2001 as part of a long-term plan to revitalize the East Side of St. Paul, Minnesota. Today, the East Side Learning Center provides free individualized reading tutoring for children in kindergarten through third grade who are not currently reading at grade level. The ESLC provides children with personalized lesson plans and instruction by trained professional volunteers in four neighborood schools. These schools are located in neighborhoods with large refugee, minority, and immigrant populations. Tutoring is offered during the school day, after school, and during the summer. Through the years, the East Side Learning Center has tutored more than 1,500 students helping them become better readers, more successful in school, and better able to reach their full potentials in life. The ESLC has supported work flexibility in the past by offering part-time jobs.
