East Durham Children’s Initiative - EDCI creates a pipeline of services for the success of children in East Durham, North Carolina. The nonprofit organization was launched in 2011. Originally modeled after the Harlem’s Children Zone, the organization’s works to prepare every child for college or a career by the time they graduate from high school.

The mission of EDCI is to offer high quality services to children in the 120-area block of East Durham, from birth through their entire educational career. More than 40 partner organizations and hundreds of supporters work collaboratively to help achieve the EDCI mission. The organization impacts the lives of hundreds of children that live in the area, working together as creative, idealists, pragmatists, and change-makers. East Durham Children's Initiative also works with families both in its zone as well as the greater Durham community to make Durham, North Carolina a place where all have the chance to lead successful lives.
